Welcome to the NYLT Trained Logger Certification (TLC) Program 

New York Logger Training (NYLT) administers the Trained Logger Certification (TLC) program, providing professional and educational skills training for the forest products industry in New York State. The program represents a cooperative effort of timber harvesters, foresters, forest industry, forest landowners, government, and educators, working together to develop and practice environmentally sound logging practices as well as best-practice woods skills. NYLT's three intersecting goals are simple but critical:

  1. Develop and foster a safer work environment in the field, at the site, and on the road;
  2. Increase productivity as a business outcome and economic driver in communities and across the state; and
  3. Improve the health and sustainability of New York's forests through sound, active management and a healthy supply chain. 

NYLT, Inc. is led by an elected Board of Directors and a Curriculum Committee, with strategy and staff support provided the Empire State Forest Products Association (ESFPA). "TLC" designation is required for timber harvesters conducting harvests on lands enrolled in the NYS 480-A program, as well as those harvesting for and delivering to companies participating in the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
